Crater lakes of Debre Zeit
In the area of Debre Zeit there are seven small crater lakes which are alkaline and are supplied with rainfall and underground waters. These lakes are the homes of various kind of birds.
Boat trips and a rest on the beach are highly remommended.

Bishoftu Lake
The deepest of the craters lakes is rich in Tilapias, a type of african fish.

The largest of the crater lakes is well known for the hot water springs.

Known as the surroundings used for famous Ethiopian Music video-clips.

A full day journey from 8-9 a.m. to 5-6 p.m.

Possibility to have lunch in town or a picnic if you prefer to eat on the lake banks. |

Journeys recommended on a week day. The lakes are very busy and noisy on week-ends.
|
|
Trips between the lakes could be done by Gari, local horse-drawn cart used as taxi.
|
|
Taking pictures is allowed on all sites.
|
|
In is not advisable to swim in the lakes because of Bilharziose.
