Climat

Regarding Addis Ababa and surrounding area, there are three seasons. The dry and sunny season from October to February, the low intensity rain season from Mars to May, and the rain season from June to September.

Clothes

Generally, a decent attire should be worn. It is the key to be accepted and respected.
In holy places, the legs and the shoulders should be covered.
Good shoes, warm clothes are highly recommended as Addis Ababa is 2400 meters abothe the sea level.

Food

In addis Ababa, there is a great choice of restaurants as Italian, Greek, Indian, Korean, Libanese French and, of course, Ethiopian.
Outside the capital, most of the time only local food is available. Tibs, shiro, injera, kitfo, gored are some examples of ethiopian dishes you should taste.
On Wednesdays and Fridays fasting food available, which means that a large part of Ethiopians eats only vegetarian food.
Try the Ethiopian coffee prepared according to the traditional ceremony.

Date and time

The Ethiopians use the Julian calendar. It means that they are seven years and eight months "behind" the Gregorian Calendar used in western countries. On 11 september 2006, the year 1999 commenced in Ethiopia.
The Ethiopians measure time in twelve hours cycles starting at 6.00 a.m. and 6 p.m. It means that their eight o'clock is our two o'clock, and vice et versa. So if you need to fix an appointment, be sure about not to mistake the Ethiopian time with the European one.

Visa

You need a toursit visa to enter Ethiopia. If there is an Ethiopian embassy or consulate in your country of residence, you should approach their office in order to get yone.
If it is not the case, you can get a visa on arrival at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa.
Tourist visas are valid for three months. You can choose between a simple and a multiple entry visa.

Ferenji

Don't be surprised if the local people call out to you "ferenji, ferenji". It is the local expression that means foreigner.
